Chess Confidence Group Classes

Do you want your child to build social skills while learning chess?

Because even though Chess is a solo game, the best players love learning with other kids just as passionate as themself.

That’s why we run small group classes with only 3–5 students. This way, everyone can ask questions and share their ideas easily.

We place students in classes that match their age and skill level. As they improve, they move into more advanced classes to keep learning exciting and challenging.

In each class, the first half is focused on learning something new, and the second half is for fun. Whether that's puzzles, mini-games, and or other fun activities.

Our classes are great for both quiet and energetic kids. They can build confidence, make friends, and grow their social skills while playing a game they love.

CURRICULUM

Chess Confidence Group Class Curriculum

Beginner Classes

Rating Range (0 - 400)

(It will take approximately 35 classes to complete the Intermediate level)

Who Can Join?

The beginner classes are for children aged 5-9 years old who want to learn the basics of how to play chess.

What Will You Learn?

Understanding the Chessboard: Board setup, piece positions, and movements.

Basic Rules: Capturing, exchanges, check, checkmate, and stalemates.

Special Moves: Castling, pawn promotion, and en passant.

Essential Skills: Basic tactics like pin, fork, and double attack.

Game Basics: Starting the game and basic opening principles.

Achievement

Students will confidently understand the basics of chess, including board setup, piece movement, and rules. They will be able to play a complete game, recognise simple tactics, and do basic checkmates, creating a solid foundation for advanced learning.

Intermediate Classes

Rating Range (400 - 800)

(It will take approximately 35 classes to complete the Intermediate level)

Who Should Join?

The intermediate classes are for children aged 6-11 years old who know the basics of chess, and are ready to improve their skills.

What Will You Learn?

Opening Strategies: Principles, common opening traps, and controlling the center.

Tactical Patterns: Skewer, discovered attacks, double checks, deflection, and decoy.

Middlegame Planning: Building an attack, defending effectively, and creating weaknesses.

Endgame Basics: Mating with two rooks, rook and king, and advanced pawn endgames.

Calculation Techniques: Thinking ahead, candidate moves, and forcing sequences.

Achievement

Students will develop strategic thinking and tactical skills so they can confidently play and win against casual players. They will understand simple opening principles, middlegame strategies, and endgame techniques with the ability to stop common tactical patterns.

Advanced Classes

Rating Range (800 - 1600+)

(It will take approximately 35 classes to complete the advanced level)

Who Should Join?

The advanced classes are for children aged 13+ years old who have a deep understanding of chess and are looking to start competing and take their skills to the next level.

What Will Your Learn?

Advanced Opening Repertoire: Deep analysis and counter-strategies for popular openings.

Complex Tactics: Advanced combinations and sacrifices to gain positional or material advantage.

Positional Play: Strategic planning, pawn structures, outposts, and weak squares.

Endgame Mastery: Complex king and pawn endings, minor and major piece coordination.

Tournament Preparation: Time management, psychological strategies, and notation refinement.

Outcome

Students will have a deep understanding of advanced strategies, tactics, and be able to make calculated decision in competition. They will have a well-rounded opening repertoire, and be skilled in all stages of the game.
